Philolexian Oratorical Contest Held The annual oratorical contest of the Philolexian Society was held last night, a large and appreciative audience being present. W. A. Paul 'O9, the first speaker, took for his subject "Universal Peace." He was followed by F. A. Higgins 'OB who spoke on "The First Pioneer." A. J. Kilmer 'OB concluded the contest with an address entitled "A Hero of Peace." After some deliberation the judges, Professor C. A. Beard, Mr. Galwey of the English Depart'sient, and K. Webb 'O6 awarded the first prize to A. J. Kilmer 'OB. F. A. Higgins and W. A. Paul were awarded second and third prizes, respectively. STUDENT BOARD ELECTION STARTS TODAY IN EARL Polls to be Open for Three Days— Seventeen Nominations Received —Six Positions to be Filled Today at 9:00 A. M. the polls in Earl Hall will be opened for the voting of the six members at large to serve on the Student Board of Representatives for the coming year. The election will continue for three days ending Friday, May Ist, at 5:00 P. M. this giving every student an ample opportunity to cast a vote for his choice of the six members to the board. VARSITY SHOW NOW FAMOUS The term "Columbia Dramatics" cannot be applied to any specific performance that has been given on the campus during the past year but must be generalized to include the productions of the Players Club, the Dramatic Association, the Sophomore Class, the Deutscher Verein, the Societ Francaise, and the Philolexian Society. Although the work of the Players Club, the Sophomore Class and the Deutscher Verein may not be properly classed as the drama, speaking in general terms, they must be included under this head. By far the oldest of these organi- zations on the campus is the Philo. which since 1908, has produced Elizabethan drama. CAMPUS NOTABLES WILL RUN IN MEET Big Interfraternity Relay to be Held in Gymnasium on February 8 and 13. MUCH INTEREST SHOWN Sixteen Fraternities Participating. Coach Metcalf Well Pleased. Arrangements for the big Interfraternity Relay are nearing completion. Entries have been made by sixteen fraternities. The meet is to be held in the Gymnasium on two days, Thursday, February S, and Tuesday, February 13.
