Fink, 1903, made extempore speeches. The debate on the question, "Resolved, That Congress should establish a national statutory university in Washington," was the warmest contest witnessed by the society this season. N. K. Cone, 1904 L., and G. H. Buller, 1903, spoke on the affirmative, and A. M. Davis, 1904,. and M. C. Ansorge, 1903, on the negative. The negative was awarded the decision. F. F. Nolden, PL, E. S. Whitin delivered an oration on "President Nicholas M. Butler," and T. L. Perry read an essay on "Germany and Venezuela." M. C. Ansorge spoke extemporaneously on the "New York Central Catastrophe." Philo Centennial. A meeting of the Philolexian Centennial Celebration Committee was held Tuesday evening in the Library. Notes were read from the members of the Advisory Committee, and the date for holding the meeting was decided ;>n. Following the custom sanctioned by the constitution of the society adopted in 1820, the 17th of May was chosen. The celebration will consist of a reunion meeting and a dinner. The committee followed the advice of Mr. John B. Pine and President Butler in selecting Mr. William Dudley Foulke, Civil Service Commissioner at Washington, is the orator at the meeting. It was originally intended to give this dinner in conjunction with Barnard Literary Association at the Murray Hill, but this plan was abandoned. Speeches were made by E. S. PHILO HOLDS THIRD MEETING Plans for This Year's Play Well Under Way Philolexian held its third meeting last night in the Library. Reports Were read from the various committees taking charge of the play. The play committee announced that most of the parts in the cast had been tentatively assigned, and that definite selections would be made during the coming week.
