The College literary group named Herman Gund '3 SJ, president; Schuyler Lawrence '36, vicepresident; Paul K. Thomson '37, secretary; and Milton Crane '37, treasurer. Lawrence, the retiring head, presided at the meeting. Lawrence read the revised constitution to the Society, which accepted it unanimously. Chief among the new features is the initiation fee of $2.50, includes the first year's dues. Judges Announced For Poetry Contest Professor Mark Van Doren, Professor Hoxie M. Fairchild of Barnard, and Joseph Auslander, instructor in Extension, will act as judges for the annual Boar's Head poetry reading contest. Paul K. Thomson '37, secretary of the Boar's Head committee, announced yesterday. Deadline for poetry manuscripts has been advanced to Friday, March 30, he said. Eight cash prizes for the best poetry will be awarded by the Faculty judges. Manuscripts should be submitted to the Columbia Review office any noon this week. The reading has been tentatively set at the Casa Italiana, Tuesday, April 16. Tickets for the session are priced at fifty cents and are available from members of Philolexian or Columbia Review.

Fadiman to Talk To Philo Tonight Barnard Literary Society Expected to Attend Hartley Meeting Clifton Fadiman, Columbia '25, boolc editor of The New Yorker, will be the guest speaker at the regular meeting of Philolexian Society tonight at 8 o'clock in the Hartley Hall Club Room. Fadiman, who was prominent in Campus literary affairs while at Columbia, will discuss some of the principles of literary criticism and reviewing. The Barnard Literary Society has been invited to attend the meeting. At last Thursday's meeting of Philolexian, a program of "swing" music was presented by Barry Ulanov '39. JESTER Robert Lax and Ralph- Toledano weathered a storm of abusive Business Board criticism all year, finally to come into their own when the 1936-1937 Jester was acclaimed by Judge as the best College humor magazine in the country. Paul van Kuykendall Thomson is vice president for academic affairs of Providence College, the Dominican-operated college in Rhode Island. He is the first layman to become a vice president there, and one of the few laymen in top posts in Catholic higher education. A native of Weehawken, N.J., he graduated with honors in 1937 from the College, where he was president of the Philolexian Society and the Debating Society, a member of the Student Board, an editor of the literary Review, and a leading student activist. He was the winner of the Boars Head Poetry Prize and was elected to the senior society of Sachems. He graduated from the Episcopalian-run Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven in 1940, and earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree from New York's General Theological Seminary.
