About College Dr. Rogers, instructor in Greek in the College, has recovered from the very severe trouble with his eyes which overtook him just before the Christmas holidays. Prof. Brander Matthews has a very interesting article on M. Ferdinand Bruntiere in the current issue of Harper's Weekly . M. Ferdinand Bruntiere is a member of the French Academy, editor-in-chief of the most famous review of the world, the Reviie des Deux Monde s, a lecturer at the Sorbonne, and a chief professor at the Normal School. He has consented to give a series of lectures at Columbia on different subjects, chiefly poetry. M. Bruntiere is, according to Prof. Matthews, the most famous critic in the world, with the possible exception of the Scandinavian Brandes. M. Mr. Douay delivered a very interesting lecture in French last Thursday on " Qe Canada Fran^ais." The artists of the National Academy of Design of New York have for some time been contemplating removal from the site of the present building to one near the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The location is directly opposite the Cathedral, and close to the new buildings of St. Luke's Hospital. About College The Sophomore baseball team is made up as follows : —Bell and Brower, catchers ; Waterman, first-base; Tilt, second-base; Pell, thirdbase ; Marcus, short stop; Stuart, left-field ; Haar, centre-field ; Lampman, right-field ; Murphy and Miiller, substitutes. Philolexian Society Last week the Philolexian Society met on Thursday instead of Friday A circular letter had been sent out informing the members that unless they attended more regularly, the names of some of them would be dropped from the roll; as a result there was a very fair attendance. Neugroschl, 'oo, read an essay on "Progress and Poetry;" it was interesting but almost too academic. The critic characterized an extempore speech by Forbes, 'Ol, on the Indictment of Miss Nethersole as the "best extempore I have ever heard." The debate "Resolved, that a system of profitsharing would be beneficial to the laborers in industrial concerns," showed careful preparations; Beers, 'oi, and Ottenberg, 'O2, upheld the affirmative against Moses, 'O3 and Coffee, '00; the affirmative won.
