PHILOLEXIAN HOLDS ANNUAL BANQUET School Speakers Entertained at Columbia Club. —H. W. Hess '97 Reads Poem. SOCIETY TO HAVE HOUSE With the ten prep school speakers, the judges and Dean Keppel as guests of honor the annual Philolexian banquet was held Saturday evening at the Columbia University Club. Several Philo alumni braved the lateness of the hour and attended the banquet. It was 10:15 P. M. before the contest was closed and about 10:30 before the members of the society and their guests could board the green bus, which carried them to Gramercy Park. At 11:05 P. M. the banqueters landed at the door of the club, and fifteen minutes later were seated at the tables. At 2:15 A. M. the festivities ceased, and the diners made their way in a body to the University. ALUMNUS READS POETRY TO PHILO Announcement Made That Curtis Medal Contest Had Been Cancelled. AMENDMENTS SUBMITTED One of the most literary meetings of the year was held by Philolexian Society last night in Earl Hall. After the business meeting W. A. Hess '9B, a former member of the society read selections from his own poetry The poems ranged from sonnets on "Conscience" to stories in light vein. The meeting did not break up until nearly 11:30 P. M. Two amendments were submitted to be voted upon at the meeting next week. One provides for a decrease in the number of cuts allowed the members, while the second provides for a change in the election of Freshmen.
