Philo Prize Debate Philolexian Debating Society held its annual prize debate Wednesday night before one of the best audiences of the year. The question, "Resolved: That immigration to the United States should be further restricted by law," was a somewhat hackneyed theme; but the contestants had gathered some fresh material and the discussion proved to be unusually interesting. The speakers were C. S. Forbes, 1901; J. T. Williams, 1901; G. H. Butler, 1903; A. L. Strasser, 1903;, and M. H. Cardozo, 1901, for the affirmative, and J. G. Moses, 1903 ; J. H. Esser, 1901; S. M. Isaacs, 1903, and P. Dudley, sp., for the negative. The judges, Messrs. J. M. Proskauer and J. S. Harrison, former Philolexian members, awarded first honors to Williams, second place to Dudley and third place to Butler. Philolexian At the regular meeting of the Philolexian Society held last Wednesday evening ten new members were elected to the society. During the present week committees will be appointed by the president to make arrangements for the debate with the Barnard Literary Association and the 23d Street Y. M. C. A. The first will take place in December at the Y. M. C. A. Auditorium, but 110 date has been settled upon for the other. The oration of the evening was delivered by B. H. Ridder, who chose for his subject "William McKinley," and by treating it from an original point of view made an interesting oration on a theme so often covered. C. G. Fink read an essay on "Modern Literary Criticism." The extempore speeches were given by S. M. Isaacs and A. L. Strasser. The debate was dispensed with.

Philo Oratorical Contest The annual prize oratorical contest of the Philolexian Society was held last Tuesday evening. The contestants and their orations were as follows: James Myers, John Hay's "Eulogy on President McKinleyß. H. Ridder, an original oration on ''Arctic ExplorationA. L. Strasser, Daniel Webster's "Reply to CalhounT. L. Perry, an original oration on "The Philolexian SocietyA. M. Ansorge, "Mark Anthony's Funeral Oration;" S. M. Isaacs, John Hay's "Eulogy on President McKinley." The committee of judges was composed of H. W. Pitkin, H. L. Hannah and Dr. McCracken. It awarded first prize to Ansorge, second to Ridder, and third to Strasser.
