SPEAKERS TO BE GUESTS OF PHILO Literary Society Will Entertain Prep-school Orators at Banquet. PLAN FOR PENN DEBATE Following out a plan which was started in 1912, Philolexian Literary Society will give a banquet on March 10 in honor of the speakers from all parts of the state who will participate in the annual Columbia Intersccholastic Oratorical Contest. The three judges of the contestl, who will be appointed by President Butler, will also be the guests of the society. There will be ten speakers this year, one more than last year and two more than when the contests were started in 1912. It is expected that the banquet will be held after the contest. A committee consisting of H. W. Palmer 'l6, as chairman, H. W. Cavgill 'l7 and G. H. Merritt 'l7 are working on the details. PHILO IN ACTIVE SESSION Next Year's Play Committee Elected— Debate on the Honor System. At the meeting of Philolexian Literary Society held last night in Earl Hail, the committee which is to have charge or the 1913 Play was elected. It consists of L. G. Egbert 'l4, Chairman; \. |F. PHILO HOLDS FIRST MEETING Year of Active Work Planned—L. Jabine '14 Elected Manager of Annual Play. Preparations for a year of active work were made at the meeting of the Philolexian Society held last night in Earl Hall. A number of graduate members were in attendance, including G. D. Caldwell 'l3 and R. S. Harris 'l3, who .spoke on the future of the society outlining its aims and purposes. An informal discussion as to the activities of the year was held and a definite policy adopted. L. Jabine 'l4 was elected as manager of the annual play in place of L. D. Egbert 'l4. The latter was forced to resign because of outside work. The play has not yet been definitely selected, but the committee in charge announced that it would probably be "The Taming of a Shrew."
