Prize Debate of Philolexia. '"P HE annual prize-debate competition of the Philolexian Literary Society took place on Thursday evening, May Bth, at Mott Memorial Hall. The subject chosen for discussion was : Resolved, , " That the Bible should be read in the public schools." We might naturally assume that such a sentiment would be most zealously espoused by all Columbia students, but, contrary to our conjectures, on this occasion at least, it was the negative that received the most popular support —of the eight contestants, six choosing this side of the question. The affirmative, however, won the debate, and, moreover, the two who championed the cause were the victors of the prizes. Those who competed were : For the affirmative —H. A. About College r I "HE Banjo Club was one of the attractions at the Brooks and Denton Banjo Concert last Friday evening. THE performance of " William Penn " to-night is for the benefit of the Union.
