PHILO WILL HOLD BANQUET TO-NIGHT Alumni from as Far Back as Class of '75 Expected—Installation of New Members Philolexian Society will hold its formal reunion banquet tonight at the Stockton Tea Rooms. The affair will be the occasion of the installation of the newly-elected freshmen, who are Chester A. Arthur, David Cort, Alvin G. Dujat and Mark Temple. Invitations have been sent to over three hundred graduate members of the society. A considerable part of this number is expected at tonight's function. Alumni from as far back as the class of '72 have already written, promising to attend. There will be singing of Columbia songs of the past between courses. CORT ELECTED HEAD OF LITERARY SOCIETY Jester Editor is Chosen President of Philolexian for Coming Semester. David Cort '24, editor-in-chief of Jester, was elected president of the Philolexian Society at the regular weekly meeting of the literary organization last evening. Cort has been a prominent member of Philo for the past three years and has taken an active part in the annual Shakesperian productions. Philolexian Society Ends Annual Contest at Noon The Philolexian Society is closing its traditional contest, open to the undergraduate membership of the society, for the best short story, poem or essay. The contributions should be handed to Professor Erskine, who is to judge the contest today at noon, or to David Cort '24, the president of Philo, in Room 10, East Hall. Prizes are in amounts of twentyfive dollars to the winners in each of the divisions of the contest, and will be awarded at the annual banquet of the Society in the Blue Grotto Room of the Columbia Club, on Thursday, May 8.

The Philolexian Society recently named various components of its croquet set, which it regularly uses for midnight games on South Field, after some of its celebrated alumni; the wooden stakes were named for one past president, the late David Cort. The source of this inspiration was the back cover photo of David's book The Sin of Henry R. Luce, which showed him playing croquet with Luce himself, probably at around the time David was foreign editor of Life. "The Cort family is greatly honored," wrote David's brother, John (Harvard '35), to Philo from his home in Nahant, Mass.
