Empire State Building syndicate (1961); pioneered the modern American real-estate syndicate. Lawrence Wien (CC 1925) invented, more or less single-handedly, the American real-estate syndicate: the legal structure by which a group of small investors could collectively own large income-producing properties. In 1961 he bought the Empire State Building with Harry Helmsley for $65 million, which is roughly the price of an apartment in it now. The Wien Stadium at Columbia commemorates his subsequent generosity to the Lions; the Lions in turn produced a football team for which he must in his lifetime have made a great many quiet apologies.

ELECT THIRTEEN MEN TO PHILO MEMBERSHIP Thirteen men, were elected to membership into the Philolexian Society* at a meeting held last Friday evening:. The successful men are: Elliot V. Bell '25, Frank A. Biba '24, Raphael G. Budvvin '24, Walter F. Dantzscher '25, G. Balthazar Delphey '24, John T. Drew '26, Jean 0. Jameton '24 Dwig'ht C. Miner '26, Paul L. Myers '23, William M. Stahl '24, Ernest A. Warden '26, Lawrence A. Wien '25, and Henry L. Winter Jr. '23. All candidates who were unable tc attend the meeting last week are requested to file their applications with President Warner Tufts '23, in Hartley Hall, and appear before a committee on membership this evening at 8 p. m. in Room 203 Hartley Hall. Candidates who have already filed applications and were unable to attend the meeting are requested to appear at the same time.

CORT ELECTED HEAD OF LITERARY SOCIETY Jester Editor is Chosen President of Philolexian for Coming Semester. David Cort '24, editor-in-chief of Jester, was elected president of the Philolexian Society at the regular weekly meeting of the literary organization last evening. Cort has been a prominent member of Philo for the past three years and has taken an active part in the annual Shakesperian productions. Other officers elected for the present semester are: Elliot Bell '24, re-elected to the vice-presidency, Charles W. Eliason '25, secretary, Charles McMorris Purdy '24, treasurer, and Lyle Winter '24, show production manager. Membership Listed Elections for membership in the society were held at the same business session and four men were admitted.
