PHILOLEXIAN ASKS THIRTY TO SPEAK Three Minute Talks Will be Delivered by Candidates For Admission. At the meeting of the Philolexian Society last night it was decided to invite thirty men to speak for admission to the Society at the meeting next Wednesday evening. Twenty-three of these men are Freshmen and the other seven are members of the Sophomore and Junior classes. It was also decided to dispense with the requirement of essays to be submitted by the candidates. The meeting next Wednesday will begin promptly at 7:30 p. m., and after the business of the society has been transacted the candidates will be called to speak. The speeches will be limited to three minutes each. The candidates will have free range of the subjects on which to speak, and the men are requested to hand their subjects to C. P. The final event of Philolexian Literary Society, its banquet at the Columbia Club, was a huge success. Twenty-eight members and initiates were present. Among them were Dr. E. Stagg-Whitin 'Ol and Professor Odell of the English Department, who has been elected honorary member of the Society. Dr. Whitin was host of the organization -for the evening, in the course of which he gave a most illuminating speech touching on his experiences in France and at the peace table. Dr. Whitin's speech dealt with the great need of the country at present and in the future for well trained and educated men to handle the stupendous problems of - the future.
