Academy Award for Interrupted Melody; co-founder of the Writers Guild; the Andy Hardy series. William Ludwig (CC 1932) wrote for MGM for twenty unbroken years, an industry record nobody is in any hurry to break, and won his Academy Award for Interrupted Melody, the 1955 biopic of the polio-stricken Australian soprano Marjorie Lawrence. He also adapted Oklahoma! the same year. Among his more durable contributions to the country: a co-founding role in the Writers Guild of America, and the creation of the Andy Hardy franchise: fifteen films and most of MGM's small-town America from 1937 to 1958.

Debaters Discuss Power Of Senate Lions Defend Senatorial Subpoena Power Versus Pennsylvania in Radio Broadcast Over Station WLIT Stressing the sovereign right of the people to know what is going on in their government, the Columbia Varsity Debate team last night upheld the negative of the question, Resolved, That the Power of the Senate to Subpoena Witnesses Be Abolished, against the University of Pennsylvania in a radio broadcast over station WLIT, in Philadelphia. Mr. Stickler, the coach of the Penn team and a member of the English Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, was Chairman of the debate. The speakers for Pennsylvania were Murray J.
