THURSTON ELECTED PRESIDENT OF PHILO Succeeds Roberts - Barzun, Hopkins and Schnitzer Fill Other Posts. Philip B. Thurston '27 of New Y<)rk City was 1 elected president of Philolexian Society at a recent meeting of that organization, it wa§ announced yesterday. At the same time Jacques M. Barzun '27 was chosen vice-president, Cecil M. Hopkins '27 was named as secretary, and Robert C. Schnitzer '27 was elected treasurer. The Annual Banquet of the society will be held on Friday. This will be the last meeting of the year and will be the occasion of the signing of the historic Philo scroll. TRYOUTS FOR PHILO CANDIDATES WILL BE CONDUCTED THIS WEEK Preliminary try-outs for the Philolexian Literary Society will be held tomorrow and Thursday, George G. Raddin Jr. '29, president of the society, announced yesterday. Announcement will be made in tomorrow's Spectator where, and at what hours, they will be held. Philolexian elects new members to the society only once a year, the elections taking place after the annual try-outs, which are open to the entire undergraduate body. PHILO WILL GATHER AT ANNUAL BANQUET Literary Society Will Hold Traditional Affair at Columbia Club. Philolexian will hold- its traditional banquet at the Columbia Club on Saturday, Feb. 1, it was announced by Boris, B. Shishkin '3O, secretary of the Columbia Literary Society. Prominent members of the Faculty and Alumni members of Philolexian will attend the affair which marks the 178 th anniversary of the society's existence. ODELL WILL ATTEND PHILOLEXIAN DINNER Dean Hawkes and Professor Coss Also Represent Faculty at Banquet. Many prominent members of the faculty will be present when the Philolexian banquet takes place at the Columbia Club on Saturday, Feb. 1, according to advance reports. Among those expected to be there are Dean Herbert E. Hawkes, Professor John J. Coss and George C. D. Odell, Brander Matthews Professor of Dramatic Literature.
